Earth Day Celebration and Customer Appreciation
In recognition of Earth Day, Capital Metro is celebrating transit riders with an afternoon of live music and more at the North Lamar Transit Center Thursday, April 21, 2011 from 2-4 p.m.
The celebration event will feature live music from Conjunto Los Pinkys and some giveaways to our loyal customers. There will also be a special appearance of the Ashtrayler.
There has never been a better time to ride Capital Metro. Taking public transportation is a healthy, affordable and earth-friendly alternative to driving.
Go Green
Public transportation saves 37 million metric tons of carbon dioxide annually—equivalent to the emissions resulting from the electricity generated for the use of 4.9 million households, or every household in Washington, DC; New York City; Atlanta; Denver; and Los Angeles combined.
Riding Capital Metro saves 4,800 pounds of carbon per year and far exceeds the combined benefits of using energy-efficient light bulbs, adjusting thermostats, weatherizing one's home, and replacing a refrigerator. [1]
It takes just one commuter switching from daily driving to using public transportation to reduce the household carbon footprint by 10 percent.[2] Calculate your carbon savings riding public transportation
Save Some Green
With gas prices on the rise, Capital Metro is an affordable option that can help you save money. Capital Metro has some of the lowest fares in the nation. A 31-day local pass costs just $30.
Riding public transportation saves individuals, on average, $9,904 annually and $825 per month based on the average national gas price and the national unreserved monthly parking rate. [3]

Get Lean
Riding Capital Metro is also a healthy choice. Studies have shown that regular transit riders tend to be healthier because of the exercise they get walking to and from bus stops, train stations and their homes or offices. Although Americans only walk an average of about six daily minutes overall, public transit users spend a median of 19 daily minutes walking. [3]
Capital Metro has also recently taken steps to help protect the health of its customers and employees from secondhand smoke. Tobacco-products are now prohibited from passenger loading areas at all Capital Metro-owned transit centers and park and rides.
