Justine Blackmore-Hlista, BOARD MEMBER
Justine Blackmore-Hlista began public service in the Village of Volente in western Travis County, a municipality whose boundaries are defined by Lake Travis, Balcones Canyonlands Preserve, and the City of Austin ETJ. Shortly after incorporation in 2001, she served on the Village's Board of Adjustments, followed by two terms as a council member before becoming mayor in 2010. She is a strong supporter of accountability, transparency and public oversight of all public and quasi-public entities and believes information technology can enable that goal.
Her professional background is in computer science and information technology. After earning degrees in physics, math, astronomy and computer science at the University of Texas at Austin, she worked in applied software research in a variety of scientific and business concerns in the Austin area, concentrating on advanced algorithms for data analysis and agile system architectures. She is currently a research associate for the Center for Agile Technology at the University of Texas at Austin.
Her spare time is generally devoted to volunteer work as mayor, which includes filling potholes and trimming trees, but as time permits she enjoys running, sailing, backpacking and music.
