America’s Premiere Modern
Performance Ensemble, Sō Percussion, to Perform a
Unique Free Concert Aboard MetroRail Nov. 1
Austin, Texas– Oct. 29, 2012 – New York City’s
cutting edge percussion quartet, Sō Percussion, will give a
unique performance aboard MetroRail on Thursday, November 1 at 3:44 p.m.
The on-board performance will
begin at the Downtown Station and continue until the train arrives at the
Crestview Station. The event will move to the Blackstar Coop Brewery near the
station before heading back to the Downtown Station at 5:55 p.m.
Sō Percussion is renowned for its
collaborations with a wide range of artists, as well as their use of unusual
and exotic instruments. The group has performed in Austin several times, most
recently at Texas Performing Arts at the University of Texas at Austin.
The quartet will be in Austin
attending the Percussive Arts Society International
Convention (PASIC). Sō Percussion and Capital Metro are jointly
presenting this unconventional concert experience, which is the first event
developed by Texas Performing Arts’ Classical Music Task Force.
“We feel this
type of pop-up concert will surprise and delight the growing numbers of
passengers we see on our trains,” said Dan Dawson, vice president of marketing
and communications at Capital Metro. “People love all forms of artistic
expression, and it’s great when it can be included on our trains, vehicles,
stations or stops. It all adds up to create a great customer experience for public
transit riders.”
Texas Performing
Arts’ Classical Music Task Force is a part of the ongoing activities supported
by a grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. Its primary purpose is to
examine the role of classical music in the “Live Music Capital of the World”
and to engage the community where they live,
work and play.
PASIC takes place at the
Austin Convention Center Oct. 31 through Nov. 3, 2012. It is the largest
percussion event in the world, featuring 120 concerts, clinics, master classes,
workshops, panels and presentations.
