Capital Metro Fiscal Year 2011 Budget Development
Updated 08/24/10
On Aug. 23, the Capital Metro Board received an update on the development of our FY2011 budget (October 2010-September 2011). The draft budget will be posted online for public comment within the next two weeks.
Some components of the proposed budget:
- Adds $1.9 million to our operating reserves
- Increases bus and rail services
- Increases fares and other revenue
- Provides more consistent application of ADA policies
- Continues improvements to bus stop accessibility
- Begins implementation of MetroRapid
- Accelerates replacement of the IVR phone system
Your feedback helped shape the FY2011 budget. In June, Capital Metro created a video about the budget process and asked you to complete a survey to let us know your transportation priorities, and about 500 surveys were collected.
What did we learn from the survey results? Of all the options we presented to reduce costs, increase revenue and build reserves, people most preferred the options that preserve transit service and maintain investments at bus stops, such as benches, shelters, and accessibility improvements.
Consequently, the proposed budget increases both bus and rail service and continues the bus stop improvement program that is upgrading stops throughout the service area.

What’s Next?
The full proposed FY2011 budget will be available for public comment within the next two weeks. The Capital Metro Board will host a public hearing on the budget Sept. 20, and the Board will adopt a budget on Sept. 24.
It’s not too late to give us feedback about the budget or the budget process. Send your feedback to feedback@capmetro.org, or attend the public hearing or board meeting. You may also view the budget video (in English and Spanish) and the budget presentation. (Spanish presentation)
