Dear Accessible Transportation Advocates:
The Capital Metro Access Advisory Committee is currently seeking accessible transit advocates for the current membership term and future terms.
Access is Capital Metro's advisory committee to address the access needs of persons with disabilities and senior citizens. Membership of Access is comprised of 10 persons with disabilities and/or agency representatives for persons with disabilities. Capital Metro is committed to appointing representatives from Austin’s diverse cultures and ethnicities to reflect the different geographic areas within the service area.
Access' mission is to provide Capital Metro with recommendations for the enhancement of services to passengers with disabilities and senior citizens.
Access meets monthly on the first Wednesday of the month. The MetroAccess and ADA subcommittees meet the fourth Wednesday of the month to specifically address issues regarding MetroAccess, ADA, fixed route, budget and customer Issues. All meetings are open to the public.

Access applications will be reviewed by a select panel. Interviews for the position(s) will be held in August. Access membership recommendations will be presented to the Capital Metro Board of Directors in September for the appointment beginning in October 2009.

The Board establishes the duties, powers and terms of office for other positions. The following is a less formal summary of information that is intended to answer frequently asked questions.
- How many people serve on Access? There are 10 positions on the committee and the appointment terms are staggered to rotate community representation and diversity
- Who appoints members of Access? All persons are interviewed by a panel of current and former advisory committee chairpersons and then the appropriate candidates are recommended to the Capital Metro Board of Directors for appointment.
- How long are the terms of each appointment? Each term is two (2) years. Members may be re-appointed for a second term.
- What are the requirements of Access Committee positions? In general, members of Access reflect the diverse constituency served by Capital Metro. We are mandated by federal acts to serve individuals with developmental, mental, and physical disabilities. Persons with disabilities, family members, and professionals are all represented on Access. Capital Metro is also committed to appointing members representative of Austin's diverse ethnic and cultural communities and makes efforts to insure Access reflects different geographic areas of the service area.
- How many meetings are held each year, and where are they held? There are monthly meetings of the committee of-the-whole and monthly meetings for the subcommittees. All held within the Capital Metro service area and accessible to fixed route services.
- How long are the meetings and what other time obligations are there? Regular meetings are always on the first Wednesday and fourth Wednesday of the month.
- How do I apply for a position on Access? You may fill out an application and submit it by the deadline in the posting. Notices of vacancies are placed on our website and sent to numerous organizations on a regular basis.
