WHO WE ARE
Capital Metro is Central Texas’ public transportation authority. With the area’s continued growth, issues of safety, environment, transportation and resource management become increasingly important. The Capital Metro team is experienced in addressing these issues while the agency remains responsive to the community and responsible to its mission:

On-time performance figures are up, accidents involving passengers are down and appearance and performance of the fleet are improved, and still Capital Metro continues to move forward. Capital Metro employees, bus operators and board members remain committed to providing an even more efficient transportation system that keeps Austin and the surrounding communities moving with multiple transportation options.
Capital Metro provides bus service on flexible, convenient schedules at more than 3,000 bus stops throughout Central Texas. Its fixed route bus service includes 53 metro routes, five downtown circulator ‘Dillo routes, eight Express routes and 20 UT shuttle routes. Capital Metro also offers 56 AISD school routes, van and carpooling coordination, shuttles to special events and special transit services for the elderly and disabled. Additionally, Capital Metro:
- Maintains the highest per capital ridership in Texas, with about 140,000 boardings daily
- Exceeds requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act, providing more rides and accessibility for persons with disabilities every year
- Partners with the Austin Police and Fire departments to improve security and support services during floods, fires and other emergencies
- Works with Capital Area Rural Transit System (CARTS) to provide transportation between its won service area and select outlying areas around Austin, including Lago Vista and Manor
- Helped remove about 120,000 semis off area highways in FY 2007 through rail freight service
- Provides an interactive voice recognition service allowing customers to access bus schedules, stop times, trip planning and other information 24 hours a day
- Offers online trip planning at capmetro.org and Google Transit as well as trip planning available by cell phone texting at dadnab.com
- Provides WiFi service for customers on express buses and some park and ride facilities
