Capital Metro Launches Mobile WiFi Aboard Express Buses

Pilot Project Provides Internet Access for Passengers

AUSTIN, Texas, November 13, 2006 - Capital Metro is launching Mobile WiFi service on Express buses to provide internet access for passengers.

The pilot project begins this month with service on nine coach buses serving express routes. The WiFi-enabled buses will feature Capital Metro WiFi decals to let boarding passengers know they are riding buses with WiFi capabilities.

Capital Metro will evaluate interest in the project and test performance in the coming weeks. Following completion of the pilot project in January 2007, staff will consider possible expansion to other routes and services.

Capital Metro, in conjunction with the Austin Wireless City Project, has also recently launched static WiFi service at the Pavillion and Tech Ridge Park & Ride facilities. WiFi will also be offered at the Leander Park & Ride facility when it opens in Spring 2007.
