Capital Metro Hosts Commuter Rail Symposium

Transit Executives to Tour MetroRail System

NEWS FACTS

  • Capital Metro is welcoming transit executives from across the nation to a symposium showcasing the Capital MetroRail project.
  • The event will take place on Thursday, March 27, from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. at the North Operations facility located at 9315 McNeil Road, near U.S. Hwy. 183 and Burnet Road.
  • Attendees will tour the new MetroRail vehicles, maintenance shop and dispatch control center.
  • Capital Metro staff and consultants also will discuss the design and manufacture of the railcars, bus/rail scheduling, and coordinating commuter and freight rail operations.
  • Representatives from more than 25 transit agencies are expected to attend.
  • A group from the Seattle Chamber of Commerce's 2008 Intercity Study Mission also will tour the railcars on March 27.
  • Capital MetroRail service is expected to begin this fall, serving nine rail stations between the Downtown Austin and the City of Leander.
  • Capital MetroRail is part of the All Systems Go Long Range Transit Plan which includes expanded local and express bus service, new park and ride facilities, and MetroRapid bus service to meet the needs of our growing population.

ABOUT CAPITAL METRO
Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority provides bus service on flexible, convenient schedules at more than 3,000 bus stops throughout Central Texas, providing riders with an average of 140,000 one-way trips each day.
