Capital Metro Claims Three Medals at Prestigious Competition May 7, 2008NEWS FACTS
- Capital Metro Bus Operator Arthur Murillo is the 2008 International Bus Roadeo Champion in the 35-foot bus category.
- Capital Metro Bus Operator Abdel Tenouri took third place in the same category, and Capital Metro's Mike Clements, Phillip O'Neal and Greg Talley won first place in the written portion of the Vehicle Maintenance competition. Operators Porfirio Rivera and Tony Payton also competed.
- Arthur Murillo is a third-time champion of the International Bus Roadeo, winning in 2002 and again in 2005. He has competed in fourteen international competitions over the course of a 24-year driving career with Capital Metro.
- In 2006, Arthur was voted "Best Bus Driver" in The Austin Chronicle readers' poll.
- More than 100 of the country's best bus operators competed in the 2008 International Bus Roadeo, May 4, sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association and hosted in 2008 by Capital Metro.
- Additionally, 47 teams of bus mechanics tested their skill in the Vehicle Maintenance competition.
