  • National Dump the Pump Day is June 19, and Capital Metro invites Central Texans to give their transportation choices a makeover and enjoy the benefits of public transportation.
  • From Noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, Capital Metro transportation experts will be at Highland Mall to provide "Xtreme Transit Makeovers" to help new riders take full advantage of the money- and environment-saving services that Capital Metro provides.
  • New riders who participate in a transportation makeover and get a personalized trip plan for riding the bus to work, school, or recreational activities may also receive a 7-day bus pass, while supplies last.
  • On Thursday, June 19, National Dump the Pump Day, Capital Metro continues the "Xtreme Transit Makeovers" from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at 100 Congress, and encourages Austinites to celebrate Dump the Pump Day by giving public transportation a try.
  • New riders can also visit www.capmetro.org and click on the Dump the Pump logo to access a virtual transportation makeover. Those who qualify will receive the personalized trip plan and 7-day pass by mail, while supplies last.
  • Dump the Pump Day is a national initiative to raise awareness of the benefits of public transportation, and is sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association.
  • Making the switch to public transportation not only saves your gas budget, but also wear-and-tear on your car. According to the American Public Transportation Association, a two-person household with one car saves more than $6,200 per year in gas and maintenance costs.
  • Riding Capital Metro also helps the environment and reduces your carbon footprint. Public transportation use saves about 4 million gallons of gasoline per day nationally.

ABOUT CAPITAL METRO
Capital Metro's mission is to provide quality public transportation choices for our community that meet the needs of our growing region. Capital Metro provides bus service on flexible, convenient schedules at more than 3,000 bus stops throughout Central Texas, providing an average of up to 140,000 one way trips per day. The fixed route bus system includes metro, flyer and express routes, downtown 'Dillo circulator routes, and UT Shuttle service. Capital Metro also provides special transit services for passengers with disabilities, van and carpool coordination, and freight rail service.

Capital MetroRail is a new passenger rail system that will extend 32 miles between the City of Leander and the Convention Center in Downtown Austin. Beginning this fall Capital MetroRail will serve nine stations providing convenient service every 30 minutes during morning and afternoon rush hours. MetroRail is part of the All Systems Go Long-Range Transit Plan which includes expanded local and express bus service, MetroRapid bus service, and new and improved park and ride lots.
