NEWS FACTS

  • This evening the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO) appointed Mike Manor to the Capital Metro Board of Directors.
  • Manor is a native of East Austin with three decades of experience in both the public and private sector.
  • Currently Manor is a social services program administrator for Travis County Health & Human Services and is a certified social worker and mediator, and a licensed minister.
  • His extensive community involvement experience includes serving with Austin Area Interreligious Ministries, the Community Action Network, the Austin/Travis County Ending Community Homelessness Coalition, and the Austin Mayor's Committee for People with Disabilities.
  • Manor will take the seat of former chair Lee Walker who retired from the Capital Metro Board in May.
  • The Board will select a new chair at a later date.
  • Capital Metro's Board of Directors is made up of:
    • Two council members appointed by the Austin City Council (Brewster McCracken, Mike Martinez)
    • One commissioner appointed by the Travis County Commissioners Court (Margaret Gomez)
    • One mayoral representative appointed by the mayors of the suburban cities of Travis County within the service area (Jamie Jatzlau, City of Manor)
    • One representative appointed by a panel made up of the mayors of the suburban cities, the county judge and the presiding officer of each municipal utility district in Williamson County (John Cowman, City of Leander)
    • Two members-at-large appointed by CAMPO (John Trevino, Mike Manor)

ABOUT CAPITAL METRO
Capital Metro's mission is to provide quality public transportation choices for our community that meet the needs of our growing region. Capital Metro provides bus service on flexible, convenient schedules at more than 3,000 bus stops throughout Central Texas, providing an average of up to 140,000 one way trips per day. Capital MetroRail is a new passenger rail system expected to open late this year or in early 2009 which will extend 32 miles between the City of Leander and the Convention Center in Downtown Austin.
