Capital Metro Expands Service to Local Events
Attendees of Junior League's Christmas Affair and H-E-B's Feast of Sharing have more options for traveling to the events November 20, 2008NEWS FACTS
- Capital Metro supports Austin's communitywide events and has partnered with the City of Austin and other organizations to identify major events which could benefit from additional transportation support, particularly those that occur simultaneously at Auditorium Shores, the Long Center and Palmer Events Center.
- Capital Metro will expand hours of the #450 Congress `Dillo on Nov. 21-22, for the Junior League's 33rd annual A Christmas Affair at the Palmer Events Center and the Austin Symphony Orchestra at the Long Center. The #450 Congress `Dillo will operate until 10:30 p.m. each night to help shoppers and music aficionados easily get to and from the events.
- After 7 p.m., the Congress `Dillo will operate on a 12-minute frequency. (Before 7, a `Dillo will arrive every five minutes on Friday and every 11 minutes on Saturday.) The `Dillos cost just 50 cents for a two-hour pass.
- For H-E-B's Feast of Sharing at the Palmer Events Center on Nov. 25, Capital Metro will dedicate larger buses for #10 South First/Red River and #30 Barton Creek.
- Auditorium Shores, the Long Center and Palmer Events Center are wellserved by Capital Metro's bus routes. Concurrent events, however, cause greater traffic congestion and strain parking options within the area. Expanded hours and service on Capital Metro's regular bus routes will alleviate traffic congestion and headaches for attendees and event organizers.

QUOTES
- "No one should ever miss an event near Lady Bird Lake due to parking and
traffic concerns. Capital Metro has great bus service to this area, and
proactive planning with the city and event organizers will provide for the
additional support needed on occasion. Capital Metro is working with both the
city and regional partners for longer term solutions, but in the meantime, jump
on the bus and leave the driving to us."
-- Fred Gilliam, President and CEO, Capital Metro
