Capital Metro and StarTran Employees Get in the Spirit of Giving
December 19, 2008NEWS FACTS
- Capital Metro and StarTran employees are delivering more than just transportation options this holiday season, participating in two giving campaigns that will make Christmas a little brighter for more than 115 people.
- Capital Metro supports the work of its East Austin neighbor, Brooke Elementary School, through employee-organized fundraisers throughout the school year, including a turkey drive for Thanksgiving.
- The Holiday Tree of Giving Campaign sponsored gifts for 105 Brooke Elementary students in need. Capital Metro employees delivered the gifts during a school presentation on Dec. 18.
- In its second year, employee participation in the Holiday Tree of Giving Campaign nearly doubled this year, allowing Capital Metro to help more children.
- Capital MetroAccess employees partnered with H.A.N.D. (Helping the Aging, Needy and Disabled) of Austin to provide gift baskets of food, personal care items, household goods like blankets and linens, etc., to ten adopted H.A.N.D. clients.
- MetroAccess staff will help H.A.N.D. deliver the gifts to their clients on Dec. 22, in one of Capital Metro's 47 brand new paratransit vehicles, expected to be in service by Feb. 1. The special delivery will mark the maiden voyage of the new fleet.

QUOTES
- "It's been rewarding for our employees to participate in such a tangible way
to nurturing our community through support of Brooke Elementary. This is
about our own neighborhood, and Capital Metro employees come together for
this school time and again."
-- Elizabeth Herrera, Capital Metro Alcohol and Drug Free Coordinator, and Holiday Tree of Giving Campaign organizer
- "Our employees wanted to do something more this holiday season, and the
mission of H.A.N.D. of Austin naturally complements our own mission to help
people overcome barriers to transportation. We've already committed to
helping H.A.N.D. again next year."
-- Inez Evans, Capital MetroAccess Director
