Capital Metro Receives Largest Equity Return from Texas Municipal League


Agency recognized for successful loss prevention efforts

NEWS FACTS

  • Capital Metro's commitment to financial stewardship and workplace and operational safety earned the Authority a $230,056 equity return check from the Texas Municipal League-Intergovernmental Risk Pool (TML-IRP).
  • Capital Metro President and CEO Fred Gilliam and Risk Manager Michael Nyren accepted the check on Wednesday, April 22.
  • Capital Metro received the largest equity return of all of the 2,644 members in the pool.
  • The agency was praised for its efforts to reduce accidents and associated costs, resulting in savings of taxpayer dollars. Capital Metro's consistent loss prevention efforts are contributing to a decrease in the agency's insurance premiums for next fiscal year.
  • Capital Metro provides extensive safety training for its staff and has been recognized by the transportation industry for safety innovations. The agency performs regular facility inspections to keep its workplaces safe, and the entire fleet has been outfitted with the DriveCam system to reduce accidents and facilitate operator training.
  • In addition to the TML-IRP equity return, Capital Metro has recovered another $385,000 through its loss prevention efforts so far this fiscal year.
  • This year's equity return is the largest that Capital Metro has ever received.
  • TML-IRP provides liability, property and workers' compensation coverage to local government agencies.
