January Service Changes

The January 2010 fixed-route service change went into effect Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010. The changes reflect Capital Metro's efforts in making the most efficient use of available resources based on ridership demands and compliance with the authority's service standards.

The January 2010 service change targets several key areas:

  • Service Expansion - Route 271 - addition of new route for Del Valle area.
  • Schedule Adjustments (On-Time Performance) - to improve reliability of service.
  • Schedule Adjustments (Frequency Adjustments) - modification of frequency on specific routes where carrying capacity is available relative to the level of service provided.
  • Route Elimination - elimination of low performing service (serving less than 15 passengers per hour).

Service Expansion - Route 271 Capital Metro is working with Capital Area Rural Transportation Services (CARTS) to provide a flexible service route that connects the Del Valle community to Capital Metro¿s fixed route service. The route will provide weekday service from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. every 30 minutes between the Del Valle High School and the ACC Riverside Transfer Center.

Minor Schedule Adjustments Throughout the course of the year, Capital Metro regularly receives reports from operators and customers regarding the scheduled performance of its route system. In addition, monthly checks and monitoring are completed on all routes in the system. The following services will receive adjustments to their schedules to improve on-time performance.

Frequency Adjustments The following list of services will have adjustments to frequency during particular service periods and days.

- Midday service between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. adjusted slightly
10 South First / Red River Weekday - Early morning service between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. adjusted to approximately 30 minutes
- Midday service between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. adjusted slightly
17 Cesar Chavez Weekday - Midday service between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. adjusted slightly
300 Govalle Weekday - Early morning service between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. adjusted to approximately 30 minutes
- Midday service between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. adjusted slightly

Route Elimination In continuing with Capital Metro's regular efforts to schedule and allocate cost effective and efficient service, Route 202 Battle Bend will be eliminated due to low performance. This route averages less than 10 passengers per hour on Weekdays. The system average is 32.5 passengers per hour. On an average day, Route 202 Battle Bend serves approximately 31 passengers.

Schedule Adjustments (UT Shuttles) Campus Circulators - Specific days of the school week exhibit fluctuations in daily ridership due to variations in school class schedules. In particular, Friday ridership "drops" by approximately 30% when compared to the rest of the week.

Radial Routes - Regular monitoring of ridership and student living patterns indicate a decline in particular areas and corridors served by shuttles.
