Capital Metro, Austin Western Railroad and Capitol Aggregates Partnership
Recognized by Freight Rail Industry

  • Capital Metro, Austin Western Railroad and Capitol Aggregates are the 2010 recipients of the Argus Rail Business Win-Win Award honoring railroad-shipper partnerships.
  • This year's award recognizes how the three organizations created a new profitable aggregate shipping plan as the railroad began to provide both freight and passenger rail service.
  • The four-year "take-or-pay" agreement between Capital Metro, Austin Western Railroad and Capitol Aggregates guarantees the amount of freight car shipments and revenue.
  • According to the agreement, Capital Metro and Austin Western Railroad guarantee to move 40,000 freight cars and in return Capitol Aggregates will pay for at least 40,000 freight cars whether or not that amount is needed.
  • Shipping 40,000 freight cars a year will remove 160,000 trucks off local highways, ultimately improving air quality and reducing road wear and tear.
  • Capital Metro's award winning shipper-carrier partnership was honored this morning at the North American Rail Shippers Association's annual meeting in Washington, DC.
  • The annual award is given to railroads, shippers and organizations that develop innovative solutions for efficiency and mutually beneficial service improvements.
  • Argus Rail Business is a specialist business publication covering the freight rail industry. Argus introduced the Win-Win Award in 1998 to honor the best railroad-shipper partnerships in the industry.
