Access-a-Ride
Access-a-Ride is a new premium, on-demand service provided by Yellow Cab. It’s available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to certified Capital MetroAccess customers, including those using nontransferable mobility devices.
Access-a-Ride is a cost-shared service supported by Capital Metro, but is not part of the ADA-mandated paratransit program and rides are not guaranteed.
What’s different about Access-a-Ride?
Access-a-Ride gives you the freedom and independence to travel whenever and wherever you please with no advance notice. There is no limit on distance or trip purpose. You can use the service to go grocery shopping, for a fancy dinner with your sweetheart, return from a late meeting, emergency doctor visits, or to visit with a friend.
How much does it cost?
There is an enrollment fee of $5. Once enrolled, you will be issued an Access-a-Ride stored value card to which you add funds each month. For every $5 you add, Capital Metro will add an additional $15 to your account. You can add up to $20 per month. If you add $20, Capital Metro will add $60, for a maximum monthly total of $80.

Unused balances roll over from month to month until September 30th of each year. At that time your contribution will be refunded and the card brought down to a zero balance.
How can I sign up?
You must be a certified MetroAccess customer to utilize the Access-a-Ride program. Visit capmetro.org/metroaccess or call (512) 389-7480 for information about MetroAccess certification.
To join the Access-a-Ride program, please call (512) 434-7712. Once enrolled, an Access-a-Ride card will be mailed to you. Each month you can call the number above to add value to the card. Cards are nontransferable.
The Access-a-Ride program accepts credit or debit cards, money orders and cashier’s checks. As of May 25, 2011, the program also accepts personal checks. Payments by check must be received in three business days in order for matching Capital Metro funds to be held. Payments by check may take up to six business days before they’re applied to an account while waiting for the check to fund.
How do I schedule my ride?
Call Yellow Cab at (512) 452-9999 or go online www.yellowcabaustin.com. You may schedule a trip at anytime, any day. When booking the trip, you must tell Yellow Cab that you are requesting an Access-a-Ride trip and have your Capital MetroAccess ID number ready. Access-a-Ride is currently operated by Yellow Cab Company.
How do I pay for my ride?
To book a trip through Yellow Cab, sufficient funds must be available on your Access-a-Ride card. Customers are responsible for all charges that exceed the card’s balance. Upon the taxi’s arrival, your card will be swiped on the meter and the value of the ride will be deducted. The driver may ask to see your MetroAccess ID card.
Card balances may be checked in the taxi or by calling (512) 434-7712. You may also call this number to add funds to your account, or report your card lost or stolen. Capital Metro is not for responsible for lost, stolen or damaged cards.
