Make Your Trip a Safe One

Take a few minutes to read the following rules. You'll be doing yourself - as well as your family and your fellow riders - a big favor.

Staying safe
  • Do not cross in front of the bus.
  • Always use traffic lights and crosswalks.
  • Do not stand on the edge of the curb while waiting for the bus.
  • Caution: Sleeping passengers may be injured by unexpected movements of the bus.
  • If no seats are available, look for a pole or a strap and hang on. If the bus is about to stop, lean back and put your weight on your back foot.
  • Do not sit or stand in the doorway/stairwell.
  • Secure personal items while on the bus.
  • Remember to take personal items with you when you leave.
General Riding Rules
  • No food or smoking.
  • Drinks are permitted only in approved spill-proof containers, such as plastic water bottles or travel mugs with re-sealable lids. Open cans, unscrewed bottles, and paper or Styrofoam cups with lids and straws are not allowed.
  • Animals are prohibited except for service animals.
  • Do not pet or attempt to play with any service animal being used by a passenger with a disability.
  • Reserve front seats for seniors and passengers with mobility impairments.

  • Do not stand in front of the yellow line.
  • Remain seated until the bus has completely stopped.
  • Use handrails when provided.
  • Weapons (except licensed, concealed handguns), explosives, car batteries, flammable liquids and other hazardous materials are not permitted on the bus.
  • Folding bicycles can be brought onboard the bus, provided they do not block the aisle; however, gasoline-powered bicycles and scooters are not permitted on buses.
  • Items brought on the bus must not block the aisle (i.e., strollers, folding bicycles, suitcases, etc.).
  • Capital Metro is not responsible for items left on the bus, at bus stops, or transit centers. To check on lost items, call the Transit Store at 389-7454.
