Getting Around During South By Southwest

The annual SXSW Film, Interactive and Music conference is coming to Austin, March. 8-17, 2013. Whether you’re using transit to hear your favorite band or just trying to get to work, we’re here to help you get around.

Capital Metro encourages visitors and locals to ride transit during SXSW to avoid festival congestion and downtown parking.

Download a detailed downtown map and rail schedule, and keep up with the latest Capital Metro news and service information during SXSW on Facebook at Facebook.com/capitalmetro and Twitter at @CapMetroATX.

SXSW brings the crowds to Austin. How's it affecting your route?

SXSW SuperStop Map

Due to various street closures and congestion in the downtown area, all Capital Metro downtown routes will be detoured along Guadalupe (southbound) or Lavaca (northbound) from March 8-17. (Exception: MetroAirport Route #100 will travel along Congress.)

We're changing things up this year to keep buses moving as efficient as possible downtown:

  • All downtown bus service, except for MetroAirport, will be accessible on Guadalupe and Lavaca, at 8 key bus stops. (Look for neon "open stop" banners at bus stops)
  • About 50 bus stops will be closed or partially closed in downtown area. (Look for our pink t-shirts on bus stop poles)
  • The following routes will be detoured March 8-17: 1L/1M, 3, 4, 5, 7, 10, 17, 20, 21, 30, 100, 101, 103, 110, 122, 127, 142, 171, 411, 481, 483, 484, 485, 486, 935, 982, 983, 985, 987 and 990.
  • If you normally catch your bus along Guadalupe or Lavaca streets, please take note of the 8 "open" bus stops for SXSW. Between Cesar Chavez and Martin Luther King Blvd, buses will make stops at these key locations only. The only local bus route that will travel up and down Congress Ave. between Cesar Chavez and 10th is 100 MetroAirport. The stop at Congress at 10th northbound will also be served by bus routes 2, 6, 19 and 37.
