Capital Metro dedicates new route in Akins High School area.

Community groups praise new route-- in time for first day of school.

Community groups, Akins High School officials, parent organizations, student representatives, and Capital Metro board member Daryl Slusher will gather at Akins High School Saturday, August 3rd to dedicate a new route.

The Capital Metro board of directors approved Route 252 Buckingham in response to requests from parent groups, students, and citizens. The new route will provide needed bus service to the Akins High School area.

The new service will begin earlier than originally scheduled to coincide with the first day of school. Community leaders praised Capital Metro staff and Board of Directors at a recent board meeting for responding to this need from the community.

"This shows what can happen when citizens and Capital Metro work together. The students deserve a lot of credit for working in a positive manner to improve transportation services to their school," said Council member Daryl Slusher. Slusher is also a member of the Capital Metro Board of Directors.

"City Councilman Slusher and Roberto Gonzalez of Capital Metro listened to our concerns. August 3rd we will celebrate the success of all stakeholders working together," said Ofelia Zapata, parent of an Akins student.
