MetroRapid and MetroBus Stop Pilot at Guadalupe & Dean Keeton

Capital Metro combined the northbound MetroRapid and MetroBus stops at the intersection of Guadalupe and Dean Keeton Streets. The new consolidated bus stop also features a new technology that could improve the safety and reliability of our service along one of Austin’s busiest corridors.

A curb extension system has been installed at the new stop as part of a six-month pilot program. Designed to improve the customer experience, the platform has a modular, non-slip base made from recycled rubber, which is anchored to the street surface.

The platform is on the street and runs from Dean Keeton to the stoplight at 26th Street, enabling buses to meet the sidewalk and curb extender without pulling all the way over. It provides additional separation from the roadway for pedestrians, cyclists and our customers.

Moving the stops to the north side of the intersection on Guadalupe also lets vehicles turning right onto Dean Keeton to do so more easily without waiting behind buses at a stop. In addition, it improves the visibility of pedestrians crossing Dean Keeton on Guadalupe, who are no longer hidden behind buses at the stop.
