August 2022 Proposed Service Changes
CapMetro regularly makes changes to our service to account for trends in ridership patterns, construction projects that affect travel on the service area's streets and for the persistent staff shortage we are currently facing. In August, we'll make changes to routes that serve area schools as the new academic year begins.
CapMetro is also planning significant changes to a select few routes, which would allow us to deliver
better service to more customers. These changes would combine a several
routes, enabling CapMetro to adapt to a changing Austin streetscape and
provide a better service that better fits the needs of our community. We have postponed those changes until 2022.
See below for details:
School Service Schedules
With the return of the school year, some routes will add trips to serve students and staff. Also, UT Shuttle routes will return to their in-session schedules. The affected MetroBus routes are:
Pandemic-Related Route Suspensions
Service on a few routes has been completely suspended since 2020 and will continue into next year:
- All E-Bus routes
- MetroExpress 981 Oak Knoll Express
- MetroExpress 987 Leander/Lakeline Express
Route Combinations - POSTPONED
The effects of construction projects downtown has caused CapMetro to rethink how we provide service on a few routes. We are also preparing for the coming Project Connect services.
We are considering the combination of six current routes into three, a change that may come early next year. No one would lose service, but the names and route numbers would be different for customers. The routes that could be affected are:
|Current Routes||New Routes|
|Route 2 Rosewood & Route 17 Cesar Chavez||Route 2 Rosewood/Cesar Chavez|
|Route 5 Woodrow & Route 6 East 12th||Route 5 Woodrow/East 12th|
|Route 19 Bull Creek & Route 30 Barton Creek Square||Route 30 Barton Creek/Bull Creek|
