In response to freezing temperatures, CapMetro generally provides rides to cold weather shelters activated by the City of Austin

CapMetro will review the National Weather Service forecast for 78701 (downtown). If air temperatures drop below 38 degrees Fahrenheit for over an hour, CapMetro will provide no-cost rides for people to get somewhere warm.

Bus Routes 1, 7, 10, 20, 30, 105, 142 and Rapid Route 801 can take you to a cold weather shelter, just let your operator know that's where you're trying to go. Anyone seeking a cold weather shelter who does not have the means to pay will still be given a ride.

Keep these tips in mind:

  • Give yourself plenty of time to get to the station or transit center and dress warmly.
  • Use caution when walking on wet or icy sidewalks or platforms.
  • Buses and trains are likely to experience delays.

Please follow Austin alerts for updated information.

In response to summer temperatures above 100 F or heat index of 103 F, CapMetro provides rides to cooling shelters run by the City of Austin. More details to come.
