New: Umo ScanRide launching on Access & Pickup on November 2!

Scan the Umo code inside Pickup & Access vehicles. Your Umo app will automatically either use a digital pass or your wallet balance to pay your fare. With this new method, you can enjoy fare capping on Pickup and local services for that service day and calendar month.

  1. Open Umo app
  2. Select "Code"
  3. Select "Scan"
  4. Locate the QR code inside the Pickup vehicle and scan it to pay.

Automatic fare capping!

What is fare capping? Using the fare card or the Umo app, you can pay per ride for Bus or Rail and always get the lowest fare. When you've spent $2.50 for standard fare in a service day or paid $41.25 in a month, you've met the cap and the rest of your rides are free until the next service day or calendar month.

You'll get daily (not monthly) fare capping if you choose to Tap to Pay.

Faster boarding

Our scanners work seamlessly with the Umo app and tap to pay to get you boarded even faster. You can tap your credit or debit card, phone and smartwatch to a CapMetro bus scanner to pay your fare on CapMetro Buses only. You'll get daily (not monthly) fare capping with this method.

More Retailers

How to Set Up Your Accounts

You must choose only one method: app or card!

  1. Download “Umo” in the App Store here or the Play Store here. Open the app, enable location services and choose "CapMetro"
  2. Need to change the Umo language to match the language on your phone? This is automatic for Android users. Go to your iPhone settings > Umo App > Preferred Language > Select English, Spanish or French.
  3. On the home screen of the app, select “Sign in.”
  4. Select “Create a new account.”
  5. Choose to create an account with your mobile number or email.
  6. Select “Wallet” tab and then tap “Buy”.
  7. Choose to either add money to your wallet to pay as you ride or redeem a benefit code.
  8. If adding money to your wallet, you will need to link a payment method.
  9. You’re ready to ride! When you board the Bus, select the “Code” tab at the bottom of your Umo App to reveal a QR code. Hold your phone under a scanner. Wait for the sound and light confirmation screen and you're on your way! On Rail, show the conductor your QR code.

CapMetro Reloadable Fare Card

  1. CapMetro Reloadable Fare Cards can be reloaded online, at participating retailers or the Transit Store.
  2. Visit umopass.com and register your account by clicking “Create Account.”
  3. Select “Register a card.” Enter the 19 digit number on the back of your card & click “Next.”
  4. Create a unique username and password.
  5. (optional) enter an email address and phone number. Click “Save”
  6. Once registered, select “CapMetro” from the main menu on the left-hand side of the screen.
  7. Select “Wallet” tab and then tap “Buy Value or Pass”.
  8. Choose to add “Stored Value".
  9. Select cash amount to load, then complete the purchase process.

More information

Although you will not benefit from fare capping, continue to use cash to pay for single rides at the farebox or Ticket Vending Machines. Paper passes are no longer accepted on Bus or Rail because we are updating our fareboxes in 2026.

  • Get a CapMetro Reloadable Fare Card is available at the Transit Store (1705 Guadalupe St.) and register it to your account.
  • If you used a digital CapMetro account:
  1. Download the Umo app and create an account.
  2. Associate your Umo account with discounted fare by completing our Discounted Fares form.

You cannot use both the Umo app and the Reloadable Fare Card, you must choose one.

If you use a Reduced Fare ID, show it to the operator when boarding to discount your cash or fare card payments.

  • Paying Cash? Use your Access ID and continue to pay on the vehicle with cash. 

  • Prefer digital payments? Download the Umo app and create an account.

  • Associate your Umo account with discounted fares by filling out this form. You cannot use both the Umo app and the Reloadable Fare Card, you must choose one.

You can pay on the vehicle with cash or the Pickup app. However, if you want to benefit from fare capping, you can use Umo ScanRide to pay your Pickup fare after November 2.

  • If you have a UT ID, swipe your ID at the farebox.
  • For government employees, other college students and staff, please download the Umo app and go through your establishment to associate your account with discounted fares. (i.e. ACC Green Pass, City of Austin, Travis County, St. Edwards University or Huston-Tillotson University)
