Cap Metro, City & Austin Parks Foundation Team Up for Summer Fun

Pilot boosts service to Zilker, offers discount for Barton Springs, Botanical Garden.

AUSTIN, Texas - CapMetro, the City of Austin and Austin Parks Foundation (APF) have teamed up to help people enjoy Zilker Park this summer while avoiding traffic congestion. The new program will increase bus service to Zilker Park, ensuring transit customers have a reliable alternative to sitting in traffic and searching for parking at the popular city park.

Doubling service on MetroBus Route 30, which directly serves Zilker Park, means the route will operate better than every 20 minutes on Saturdays and Sundays while the promotion is in effect. Thanks to a generous $10,000 contribution from Austin Parks Foundation, bus riders will also receive a $2 discount to Barton Springs Pool and the Zilker Botanical Garden beginning Saturday, June 22.

“We're proud to partner with the City of Austin and CapMetro for this exciting promotion,” said Colin Wallis, CEO of Austin Parks Foundation. “We, along with our partners, recognize the importance of access to every park as our city continues to grow. We hope our community will take advantage of public transportation to visit Zilker Park and their other favorite green spaces and outdoor activities this summer.”

CapMetro staff and Board Member Ann Kitchen worked to gather the support of APF, as well as the city's Transportation and Parks and Recreation Departments to make this program come together quickly.

“Zilker Park is one of Austin's jewels,” said Kitchen, “and I'm thrilled that Cap Metro and Austin Parks Foundation are making it easier for everyone to access Barton Springs and the Botanical Garden. When we all work together, it can make a real difference. These kinds of partnerships are what will help Project Connect make real, transformational change for everyone throughout Central Texas.”

The details for the summer promotional discount include:

  • Coupons are available only for weekend riders on  Route 30 Barton Creek Square.
  • Available for customers using two pairs of bus stops, in front of Barton Springs and Zilker Botanical Garden.
  • Valid until August 18 or while supplies last.
  • Kids 18 and younger ride free - 10 and younger must be accompanied by someone 12 or older - and are eligible to receive the coupon.
