Approved August 2026 Service Changes

CapMetro is making service updates in August 2026 to make trips easier, improve connections and better match service with how people are riding today. The following changes begin Sunday, August 16, 2026:

These ideas were shaped by feedback from riders, bus and train operators, schools, and community partners as part of Transit Plan 2035. Some improvements are in partnership with the City of Austin, as part of its Climate Pollution Reduction Grant. Request additional information at engage@capmetro.org

We collected comments on the proposed August 2026 service changes from the community. Read the public comments below.

Extension of Route 2 Rosewood/Cesar Chavez

We will extend Route 2 along Springdale Road, filling a gap in service. This will make it easier to travel between East Austin neighborhoods, Eastside Bus Plaza, and Downtown without extra transfers. It will also create more consistent, two-way service along the route. The stop at Goodwin and Airport Blvd. (Stop ID 3261) will no longer be served by Route 2. Customers can use stops at Springdale and Goodwin (Stop IDs 1339 & 1379) as an alternative.

Route 217 Montopolis Feeder

This route will  service Vargas Rd instead of Montopolis Drive. This change will give more people direct access to schools, housing, and community spaces like Allison Elementary School, IDEA Montopolis Academy and the library. The route will still connect riders to Riverside, Esperanza Crossing and Eastside Bus Plaza.

Route 217 would no longer serve ACC Riverside. However, Routes 310, 311 and 350 will continue to serve the campus.

Change Frequency of UT Shuttles

Weekday service on UT Shuttle Routes 661 Far West & 670 North Riverside routes will run every 15 to 20 minutes instead of every 8 to 10 minutes. Ridership and student housing patterns in these areas have changed over time, and this update helps match service to current demand while improving reliability.

Transition to School Service & Minor Schedule Adjustments

Transition to normal service levels will occur on UT Shuttle routes and Routes 4, 217, 315 and 333.

To improve on-time performance and reliability, the following routes may receive minor adjustments to their schedules: 1, 4, 7, 10, 30, 50/152, 111, 171, 228, 271, 300, 311, 322, 337, 466, 640, and 985. Route 985 will also use the new US 183 toll lanes to assist with travel times and reliability. There will be no changes to its stops.

These changes help accurately respond to evolving traffic conditions and customer feedback. Once the new schedules are available, they will be posted on our webpage before the service change is implemented.
