Bus Farebox Replacement 2026
CapMetro is upgrading the fareboxes on all buses in mid-2026. After June 1, we will not sell or accept paper passes with magnetic stripes.

What You Need to Know
- Use all existing paper passes before June 1
- Day passes (and all paper passes) will not be sold or accepted at bus fareboxes after June 1.
- Continue to use cash to buy a Single Ride at the farebox or Ticket Vending Machine after June 1.
- After June 1, exchange unused & unvalidated passes at the Transit Store for a Reloadable Fare Card or Umo credit of equal value before December 31.

After June 1, riders can continue to use these payment methods to get the benefits of a Day Pass and pay the same standard fare: $2.50 per Service Day (4 a.m. to 3:59 a.m.) for Local services and $7 for Commuter services per service day.

- A CapMetro Reloadable Fare Card. Get your card and load it with cash at H-E-B, the Transit Store or other popular retailers. See the full list of retailers.
