Capital Projects

The agency is investing in major capital projects designed to create a faster, safer and better transit experience for our customers. From new services, stations, buildings and infrastructure, these projects are helping strengthen mobility across the region. Funded through a combination of local investment and competitive grants, each project is focused on improving our service reliability and making transit more accessible to the Central Texas region.

Funded through Project Connect, as well as a $65.6 million from the Federal Transit Administration’s Small Starts Grant program, two new Rapid lines fully launch on June 7, 2026.

To support the battery-electric bus fleet, the agency has built two solar charging facilities at our Operations buildings in North and East Austin. As part of the agency’s Sustainability Plan, these new upgrades will help CapMetro charge more electric buses to be able to serve the region, reducing emissions and improving air quality for the community.

To meet the growing needs of our Pickup and Access services, CapMetro is currently building a new operational facility and warehouse in North Austin. This project was awarded a $20 million grant from the Federal Transit Administration and expects to be completed in 2028.

To support the needs of CapMetro Rail, the agency is expanding its centralized warehouse at its North Operations facility. The expansion includes more storage, an extended track to allow maintenance to work on several train cars at once, and an emergency generator.  Once completed, the project will improve operational efficiency by consolidating parts storage in one location, plus the new generator will allow CapMetro to continue train maintenance in the event of a power outage or severe weather event.
