Capital Metro & Creative Action Announce Electric Bus Artwork Contest
AUSTIN, Texas - To commemorate the December arrival of Capital Metro's first two electric-powered buses, the agency is working with Creative Action to create bus wrap designs for the new vehicles. The designs will include artwork from students at AISD's Lewis Campbell Elementary Media and Performing Arts Institute (Campbell Elementary). To select the artwork for each bus, Capital Metro has partnered with Creative Action to manage an artwork contest with students, grades 2-5, from Campbell Elementary.
Capital Metro is committed to a sustainable future powered by an all-electric fleet, which is an important part of the Project Connect transit plan. The first step in fulfilling that commitment has been the procurement of 10 electric buses by the end of 2020, and the first two will be put into service in December.
Creative Action is an arts-based development organization that provides creative learning programs for Central Texas youth. The organization is incorporating a curriculum with high artistic rigor for the contest and inviting sustainability professionals to be guest speakers at Campbell Elementary. Students will learn about environmental sustainability as they work on their design for the contest.
Melissa Ortiz, a coordinator with Capital Metro's Community Engagement, announced the contest today during an awards ceremony at Campbell Elementary. Ortiz told students content submissions should illustrate what they think a healthy planet should look like. Contest results and winners will be announced in January 2020.
