CapMetro Announces Extended Holiday Schedule and Free Service on New Year's Eve

Agency will operate reduced service for Christmas Eve, Christmas & New Year's Day.

AUSTIN, Texas - CapMetro will offer extended service on New Year's Eve, with MetroRail, MetroRapid and select MetroExpress routes operating until 2:30 a.m. Each year, the agency invests in free rides and  extended service to ensure that Central Texans have safe transportation options on what can be one of the most dangerous nights of the year due to impaired driving.

On New Year's Eve, Tuesday, Dec. 31, CapMetro will offer free rides on all of its services, including MetroBus, MetroRapid, MetroRail, Pickup and MetroExpress, after 5 p.m. to help residents and visitors safely ring in the New Year.
MetroRail service will be extended that evening, with the last downtown train leaving at 2:30 a.m. In addition, MetroRapid will run later hours, with Routes 801 and 803 running until 2:30 a.m. Routes 980 and 985 on MetroExpress will also run until 2:30 a.m.

Local MetroBus and Pickup service will operate on a regular weekday service schedule, with free rides after 5 p.m. Night Owl routes will operate until 3 a.m., while E-Buses and UT Shuttles will not be in service.

CapMetro will operate a Sunday service schedule on three days over the next week:

  • Christmas Eve, Tuesday, Dec. 24
  • Christmas Day, Wednesday, Dec. 25
  • New Year's Day, Wednesday, Jan. 1.

There will be no MetroRail, Pickup, UT Shuttle, Night Owl, E-Bus or MetroExpress service on these days, and scheduled  MetroAccess subscription trips will be canceled automatically. Customers needing to keep their subscription trips should call 512-852-7272. The reservation line will be staffed on Christmas Day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Customers can use CapMetro's  Trip Planner, the  CapMetro App or call the Customer Service GO Line at 512-474-1200. Customer service reps will work from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. After hours phone calls will be routed to our automated system, which can also help you plan your trip.
