AUSTIN, TX—CapMetro is proud to announce the swearing-in of RenEarl Bowie as Chief of the CapMetro Transit Police Department, alongside the induction of additional new officers who join the growing team dedicated to ensuring safety and security throughout Central Texas’ transit system.

Chief Bowie took the oath of office today, surrounded by community leaders, agency staff, and law enforcement colleagues, marking a significant milestone in the continued development of the Transit Police team. Chief Bowie is a seasoned law enforcement professional who brings over 30 years of experience, including service with the Texas Department of Public Safety and, most recently, as Captain of CapMetro’s Transit Police.

"Chief Bowie brings an exceptional depth of experience, integrity, and vision to CapMetro,” said Dottie Watkins, CapMetro President and CEO. “His leadership will be instrumental as we continue expanding our transit network and reinforcing our pledge to provide a safe and welcoming environment for all riders and employees. I also want to extend my congratulations to the new officers joining our team; we are excited to have them on board."

“I’m honored to serve in this role and join an agency that plays such an important part in our community,” said Chief Bowie. “As we move forward, our focus will be on proactive policing which includes, strong community engagement, and building trust with the people we serve every day.”

In addition to Chief Bowie, three newly hired officers were sworn in today, expanding the Transit Police Department’s capabilities and presence across the transit network. These officers will support a range of public safety responsibilities, from routine patrols and emergency response to customer assistance and community outreach.

The Transit Police Department launched in June 2025 and has expanded to 14 sworn officers. CapMetro is continuing to actively hire additional officers to support its growing operations. Since beginning patrols, the department has formed meaningful connections with riders and community members while enhancing safety throughout the transit system.
